ATHENS PRISON CLASHES
Two inmates of Pakistani origin have been killed and 21 were injured in a brawl in Korydallos prison in capital Athens on May 3rd. Prison guards struggled to contain fighting between Pakistani and Albanian groups as prisoners were led back to their cells after dinner. The situation in the prison is now under control, but SWAT teams are on standby. Korydallos prison is the country’s largest prison and holds 2 thousand inmates in six wings, two of which are primarily used for foreign prisoners.
FN FOUNDER SUMMONED
Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of France’s far-right National Front Party, is expected to go before the party’s disciplinary board for anti-Jewish remarks. Last month, Le Pen repeated his long-held view that the Holocaust was a “mere detail” in history. Le Pen’s daughter and current leader of the party, Marine Le Pen,said that he should "no longer be able to speak in the name of" the party.” She condemned her father's denial of the holocaust, classifying it as “political suicide.”
BAILOUT NEGOTIATIONS
Negotiation talks between Greece and its creditors to unlock the remaining 8 billion dollar installment of its bailout program have recommenced in Brussels. Officials say agreements could be could be settled this month. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras recently re-shuffled the negotiation team, replacing Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis with junior Foreign Minister Euclid Tsakalotos. Greece is expected to make a 222.81 million dollar payment to the IMF this week.
BB KING RECEIVES HOSPICE
89-year old Blues legend B.B. King has announced he is receiving hospice care in his Las Vegas home. In a Facebook post, he thanked fans for their “well wishes and prayers." His announcement comes less than a month after he was hospitalised for diabetes-related issues.
