I am a musician, mainly a Jazz musician who loves to perform in big bands but also as part of small combos and groups. As a performer, my main goal is to be able to use music as a vessel for expression of identity and freedom. To allow any individual listening to or performing my music to feel at ease with who they are, what they do and not be afraid to show themselves for who they are.
My music and performing is so important to me because it allows me to be myself in a world where a lot of us are confined to boxes and are criticised by others if we attempt to be ourselves. I believe it is so important in life to take hold of your identity, your beliefs and express that to the world. This is why I am primarily a Jazz performer, Jazz broke the boundaries of its time, Jazz progressed, moved forward and is still doing the same thing to this day. It allows me to break away from the standard conventions and confines of other musical types. I am constantly influenced by musicians both past and present such as Duke Ellington, J.J. Johnson, Jordan Murray, Mat Jodrell. These musicians all use their music as a means to express themselves and who they are, challenging the ways of the world and the ways of their music.
I am constantly finding myself trying to push the boundaries even further, trying to find more ways to allow individuals to make my music their own. My dreams and ambitions for the future of my music continue to grow and prosper. I want to write music that moves people enough to be able to unlock parts of themselves that they had never considered before. I want people to be able to perform or listen to my music and not think of it as my music but as theirs.
