Now that RAM prices are SO CHEAP and you can still upgrade the RAM yourself on various Macs like the 5K iMac, the Mac Pro and the Mac Mini, we decided to test benchmarks and real-world applications to show YOU how much RAM you really need for a Mac in 2020.

These results also translate very well to using Macs without user-replaceable RAM like the MacBook Pro and the iMac Pro.

We test video editing in Final Cut Pro X. We test photo editing including exporting and building 1:1 previews in Lightroom Classic.

We test the Logic Pro X stress test benchmark to see how many tracks it can handle. We run Unigine Heaven Gaming benchmark.

And we even ran our NEW Max Tech Xcode Benchmark created by Max Eremenko to see if RAM has an effect on that!

We take a look at all of these tests and give our RAM buying recommendations for each use-case and scenario. You'll be surprised by how overkill 128GB of RAM on the 2020 5K iMac really is!
