ABOUT THE INCLUSION OF VENOM: Any further comments other than the ones already posted saying anything along the lines of Venom not being a black metal band will be deleted without any notice, as I am really sick and tired of arguing with people about this fact. Venom is indeed a black metal band, falling under the black/thrash subgenre just like many of the other first-wave bands. What you have to realize is that black metal as a genre is so expansive, dynamic and diverse that many different bands that sound completely different can all justifiably acquire this label. However, with that being said, that doesn't conclude to the pioneering bands (who formed before the expansions) not being black metal. Yes, bands like Negura Bunget, Drudkh, Emperor, The Ruins Of Beverast, Aura Noir, Blasphemy, Mayhem, Burzum, Ulver, Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord are all black metal, but Venom is also black metal (notice how I intentionally listed bands that are all unique amongst each other). End of discussion.
