The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the political climate in several African countries. From restrictive media laws to prohibitions on political activities, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the opposition to contribute to policy debates or even assist their supporters in a time of need. Evidently, these continuous attacks on political leaders and civil society activists are most acute in countries experiencing democratic backsliding.
The CSIS Africa Program invites you to join us on July 17th for an interview convening opposition figures from Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The three leaders will discuss how Covid-19 is remaking politics and challenging democratic norms in their country. Join us online at 9 am EDT / 3 pm CAT for this exciting event.
