The VA bases their ratings of 0%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and total impairment of 100% largely on the level of occupational and social impairment that the disability causes. It is important to keep in mind that these levels are not the only things that the VA considers whenever determining a rating.
PTSD, like all other mental disorders are rated on the same scale by the diagnostic code. A rating of 100% can be assigned for PTSD if a veteran is unable to work at all strictly because of a mental disorder and mental symptoms. However, in this informative video Veteran’s Disability Benefits Attorney Lori Underwood describes how lower ratings, if services connected, can also lead to unemployability if the disability prevents someone from being able to maintain and sustain substantial gainful employment by combining with other ratings to reach a 70% rating.
If you are unable to work due to PTDS or because of your other service-connected disabilities, you may qualify for total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU). Contact us to see if you are eligible. Give us a call and receive a free legal consultation.
