Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni died on Thursday (19/12) at his Paris home. His former partner Catherine Deneuve and their daughter Chiara were at his bedside. The 72 year old actor had been receiving treatment for cancer of the pancreas for several months.
Mastroianni, whose career spanned four decades, made his name with such
films as Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" (Cannes Golden Palm, 1960). Italians have reacted with shock at the news of Mastroianni's death. He, among others represented an era in Italian film-making that has seemingly disappeared.
