Learn a sweet sounding major scale lick. By using open strings that ring out, we get an open, keyboard-like melodic line, that sustains similarly to what a keyboardist might do with a sustain pedal.

Grab the tab, and start exploring this. Tip: try playing this by using just the fingers on your picking hand. By getting rid of the pick, you get a softer, more dynamic attack on the notes. I do think it sounds better than using a pick as I did here. 🙂

This is just a beginning. You can rearrange the notes, add/remove notes, and come up with a different and just as interesting melody as I’ve done. The trick is to find melodies that have B and E (open strings) in them. I know you can do it though, so let me know what come up with. I’d love to hear your ideas!
