The protector of Corinth stands firm over it. Since the time the Ancient Corinth was built on its hills it scans the area for intruders. With its secure water supply, Acrocorinth's fortress was repeatedly used as a last line of defense in southern Greece because it commanded the Isthmus of Corinth, repelling foes from entry by land into the Peloponnese peninsula. Three circuit walls formed the man-made defense of the hill. The highest peak on the site was home to a temple to Aphrodite.
The castle is one of the biggest in the Peloponnese and more impressive even than the famous Acropolis of Athens. From the first walk towards its entrance to the moment you reach its top you stand amazed by how imposing Acrocorinth is.
The visit to its premises is free of charge and it being very close to Athens makes it a perfect destination for a day trip. Combined with a visit to Corinth cafeterias / restaurants, which are built across the seaside having excellent views, it s a day trip promising to provide you with amazing historical and cultural images!
