The magnificent Saint Stephen's Basilica is one of the great landmarks of Budapest. Construction took over fifty years, from 1851 until 1906. The completed church is the work of three different architects. Miklos Ybl, the creator of Budapest's glorious Opera House was the main architect for this basilica, though it was begun by Joszef Hild and completed after Ybl's death by Jozsef Krauser. The interior is truly breathtaking and contains masterpieces by great Hungarian artists like Gyula Benczur and Alajos Strobl. Photos taken by me on June 19th, 2009.
