What would it be like if Beethoven scored a Batman movie? While I knew that I could never reach the heights of what he would have been able to accomplish, I used this as a concept when developing this project. I wanted the music to reflect the weight carried by the billionaire Bruce Wayne as he goes about his work as Gotham's detective. I hoped the
melodies would reflect what was going on in his head as he uncovered each clue, while at the same time, being haunted by the trauma of his childhood. We needed to feel his pain and his yearning, but most importantly his loneliness. Hopefully this piano piece captures a bit of that expression.
- Michael Giacchino
Michael Giacchino has composed the scores to some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including The Incredibles, Coco, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Jurassic
World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Spider- Man: No Way Home, and The Batman. Giacchino’s 2009 score for the Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe®, the
BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics' Choice Award and two GRAMMY® Awards. His work for the video game adaptation of Steven Spielberg’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park sparked the interest of J.J. Abrams, beginning their long-standing relationship that would lead to scores for the hit television series Alias and Lost, and the feature films Mission Impossible III, the three Star Trek films, and Super 8. In June 2018, Giacchino premiered his first work for symphony orchestra, Voyage. Commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the piece celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of NASA. Giacchino sits on the advisory board of Education Through Music Los Angeles.
