Joan Sutherland sings my favorite of the English rarities she and Bonynge unearthed, Cyril Scott’s setting of Rosamund Marriott Watson’s poem “The Unforeseen”. Unfortunately, Sutherland never recorded this song commercially, and of all her live recitals I’ve heard, she only performs it in two. Here is the better-sounding of the two, from Ottawa on January 27, 1973. Richard Bonynge on the piano.
I have done some equalization to get more clarity out of the sound. Photograph by Allan Warren.
Enjoy!
