In this episode of our project car series, we dive into the nitty-gritty of car restoration and modification with a focus on the front end and wiring harness overhaul. With the power out and nothing else to do, I seized the opportunity to make some progress on my car. This video documents the steps taken to remove the front bumper, address the AC condenser, and plan for a new radiator setup, all while battling the elements outside my garage.
The journey begins with the removal of the front bumper and the DX bumper, making way for a wagon bumper that requires some adjustments to fit properly. Despite the challenges posed by the wind and my shadow, I share my plans for improving the car's cooling system by potentially removing the AC condenser and installing a new fan setup for better airflow.
A significant portion of the video is dedicated to the ongoing saga of the wiring harness. Following up on the previous episode, I delve deeper into the process of removing the old harness, highlighting the makeshift solutions and ingenuity that kept the car running for tens of thousands of miles. With the harness out, the focus shifts to updating and possibly replacing some of the sensors and considering the installation of a Hondata coil-on-plug setup.
As I navigate through the disassembly process, I share my thoughts on whether to fully tuck the wiring harness, a decision that could significantly impact the project's scope. The video also covers the plans to refresh the front suspension, including replacing the upper and lower arms, tie rods, and installing a PLM traction bar.
In addition to the mechanical updates, I contemplate taking advantage of the disassembled state to steam clean the engine bay and repaint some components to freshen up the car's appearance. The episode is a raw and honest look at the challenges and decisions faced during a DIY car project, emphasizing the importance of making progress, no matter how small.
This video is perfect for car enthusiasts interested in DIY projects, car restoration, and those who appreciate the journey of bringing a project car back to life. Join me as I tackle each challenge head-on, sharing tips, successes, and setbacks along the way. Whether you're here for the technical details or just to see the transformation, there's something in this episode for everyone passionate about cars and restoration.
