This video was blocked for over a year, thankfully it was recently allowed to be viewed by my small but encouraging audience.
I remember seeing the video for Try Again over and over again when I was a kid on MTV, but it wasn't until I saw Ian Allison on Scott's Bass Lessons talking about synth bass lines that I realized just how sick this bass part was.
First of all, if you watch my videos and don't know about Scott's Bass Lessons, you should go check out that channel. It's the channel that everyone I mention mine to finds first, then I have to tell them that no, I'm not a bald British man. In all seriousness, his channel is super rad, he's a phenomenal player, and he provides an incredible resource for all things bass.
If you want to learn how to play this song, check out Ian Allison in this video: [ Ссылка ]
Then skip to about 9 minutes in. Like he mentions, not all of the octaves are 100% correct, but wow is this a fun line to play. Just a heads up, it's in drop Db.
I tried using a Q-Tron, Boss Dynamic Wah (AW-3) and Bass Synth (SYB-5) pedals to get closer to the synth sound, but none of them worked quite right for me on this one. I'd be interested to hear what envelope filter-ish effects have worked for you when going for a skronky synth bass effect. I just got the Darkglass Alpha Omicron and it was fun to get to use it in a video so soon. You'll definitely be hearing more of it down the line.
