A rare, vintage treble booster from Electro Harmonix - the Screaming Tree (this circuit was also called the Screaming Bird, and sold in a much smaller enclosure)
Treble boosters into clean amplifiers sound horrendous, but when put into the front end of either a compressing amplifier or an overdrive pedal (such as the Wampler Tweed 57 we have here), they give the honky, nasal tone that has been responsible for many great guitar sounds over the years.
Brian May is a key user of treble boosters (nowadays he has his own signature one strapped to all of his guitars, before the wireless transmitter) - it's said that Eric Clapton used one on the Beano album too, though this isn't 100% confirmed.
By tightening up the low end and pushing the biting frequencies into compression before anything else, the result is a bright tone that will slice through even the most dense of mixes or bands.
This circuit is almost identical to EHX's first ever pedal - the LPB-1 Linear Power Booster - with only one capacitor difference between them.
Guitar is a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard, through a Hughes & Kettner Puretone, recorded with a simple SM57 and an sE Electronics RNR1 Ribbon.
