The design and implementation of health innovation is surrounded by ethical issues that require responsible research and development. We need to consider the impact these technologies might have on individuals who are targeted as potential users and society as a whole. How can we ensure that we're being ethical, inclusive, and address equity in the technologies we develop? And what can we learn to make Aotearoa a leader in responsible research and innovation?
Hear from three national and international leaders who are making strides in ethical design in medical technologies, organisational culture, and strategy:
Morris Pita, CEO and Founder of Emergency Q, an app that forecasts wait plus treatment times for non-emergency patients at specific hospital emergency departments and accident and emergency (A&E) clinics in Aotearoa. Their product is addressing health inequities, and his company culture is embedded in Te Ao Māori.
Monique Cooper, Rhodes Scholar Elect and Product Engineer at Fisher and Paykel Healthcare who has been working on their sustainability strategy.
Dr Claire Davies, Associate Professor of Materials Engineering at Queens University in Canada and Eksine fellow at University of Canterbury. Dr Davies has invented a number of assistive technologies and is building a Living Lab focused on developing technologies that consider inclusion, indigeneity, diversity and equity.
