This is the discussion following on from Session 1 of an online webinar held in February 2021 and organised by the James Hutton Institute, as an outcome of the EU Horizon 2020-funded DIVERSify project.
As part of DIVERSify, Stockbridge Technology Centre analysed the technical and technological solutions to the practical challenges in the growing, harvesting and processing of mixed crops. These troubleshooting solutions are presented by Dr David George (Reader in Precision Agronomy, Newcastle University) in Session 1. The solutions then go on to be discussed with a panel of industry experts in this discussion session which focuses particularly on drilling and agronomy barriers and begins with an introduction to the panelists by David George. The panel includes farmers Andy Howard, Bockhanger Farms Ltd and Doug Christie, Durie Farms, a machinery manufacturer, Graham Rowe, Trials Equipment (UK) Ltd) and a PAT delivery specialist and farmer, Andrew Manfield, Manterra Ltd. Technology gaps for future prioritisation are also addressed.
