In this video, I make a style of wheelthrown mug I learned many years ago from Phil Cornelius at Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California. It's a mug with lots of style that you can make your own. It's all about the "pinch" where you take the cylinder off center just before cutting it off the wheel head.
To make the mug, center and open 1 pound of clay and make a cylinder. Clean up the walls, bevel the bottom, then make sure to clean and dry your hands. Next, give the mug a little pinch by pulling it towards you. Then, cut it off the wheel.
Next, make a handle (of any style) and attach. In this video, I made a simple coil handle that was flattened by tapping it against a board. After attaching the handle, you may need to recenter and adjust the rim of the cup.
That's it! Have fun making your own version, and thanks for watching.
