A lot of factors come into play when you're trying to decide which is the right gun for you. First thing you gotta think about: What do I want the gun for? You want it for home defense, personal protection to carry, are you going to the shooting range just to do target shooting, are you going to do competition shooting, maybe even go hunting? So first step, decide what you're going to use the gun for. After that, once you decide that, you need to check with all of your local laws.
They vary from different states, different counties, towns, municipalities. Everyone has got their own laws, so the first thing you want to do is check with your local municipality, make sure you're not breaking any laws, and find out your licensing requirements. Some places will require a license for anything, some just for pistols, some don't require licenses, so it depends on where you live. Once you've gotten that figured out, there's some things you want to think about. Home defense: my opinion, the best weapon for home defense, especially for someone who is not very proficient with guns, would be a shotgun. This is a 12-gauge pump shotgun.
It's pistol grip with a fold-out stock. This is an ideal weapon for home defense. It's very simple to use. It doesn't require a high level of skill for aiming. You can pretty much even hold it like this and shoot it, the bullets they fire, the pattern spreads out, so it's very, very good for home defense. Not to mention that the telltale sound of a shotgun racking, unmistakable that someone breaking into your house or you were using it for defense, they hear that, they're going to know that you have a shotgun and they're going to leave.
If you're going for target shooting there's plenty to pick from. You have pistols, you have rifles, you have to decide what's right for you. If you're a larger person, some of the larger caliber guns are going to be good. Smaller frame people with smaller hands, they might want to go with a smaller caliber like a 380 or a 38 maybe or a 9mm. Hunting: you have rifles and shotguns. There's a huge variety of guns for that. And you really just have to decide what you want to shoot and what you're comfortable with. And take the right training courses and happy shooting. And that's how to choose a gun for you.
