This footage is from Agate Beach (also called the Public Beach) in Grand Marais, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This beach has a wide variety of rocks and minerals, but rockhounds often search for agates, datolite, magnetite, and more common rocks like unakite. Lake Superior Agates formed millions of years ago by an ancient volcano that is also responsible for the terrain of the Keweenaw Peninsula and Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This is the first beach after Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
