For sure you can rent the proper saw from rental tools supplier. Rental tools supplier will tell you that using circular saw will not work unless you have gear driven circular saw.
I have standard circular saw and cutting blade specific for pavers.
Please note that I have never done this project before.
Renting equipment will force me to make rush decision that could impacting my project. I prefer to have my own cutting tool that is using my circular saw for this project.
I did a few test cut with my saw and blade, it works great. To ensure I don’t burn the saw out or damage the blade, I took my time and make sure the saw does not overheat. Cut slow.
I have cut 2 double cars driveway and block pavers. Saw still running strong and still on the same cutting blade .
How to cut asphalt:
Take your time cutting with circular saw. Remove any built between the blade and saw safety guard . Work safely by gently push the saw forward.
Cut dry 1/2” deep along the line you marked
Set the saw depth to 1.5” for second pass . Go slow and stop often to let the saw cool down if needed.
Set the saw depth to 2” as final cut . Stop often to clean the saw blade .I used compressed air to clean the motor and cool it . The saw is not hot. Just a precaution.
Protection:
Wear dust mask! Very dusty!
Wear ears protection
Wear knee pads
Keep work area clean and clear
