The excellent Australian mezzo-soprano, Irene Waugh, enjoyed a successful operatic career in Germany before returning to Australia in the mid-1980s. She performed with Opera Australia and the other State companies in a variety of repertoire from Mozart, Puccini and Verdi through to Menotti, Bernstein and Meale. Irene Waugh also recorded a wonderful Charlotte in Massenet's WERTHER for A.B.C. Her voice and temperament were perfectly suited in the Rossini roles of Rosina and Isabella - roles in which she was unrivaled for the last four decades. Here she performs Arsace's entrance aria from Rossini's SEMIRAMIDE in a Rossini Gala in Brisbane with the Queensland Symphony conducted by Muhai Tang.
