A popular upgrade for classic muscle cars and hot rods is the one wire alternator conversion. The early one-wire alternators available in the aftermarket were based off the GM one-wire alternator, but today the one-wire alternator has found its way into the automotive performance space in multiple mounting configurations for GM, Ford, and others due to its simplistic one wire from alternator to battery and the higher charging output they offer. The Tuff Stuff alternator is available for many applications and in several amperage outputs, but we’re often asked how to wire a one wire alternator or what amp alternator do I need?
These are great questions and we leaned on Tuff Stuff Performance Accessories’ Mike Stasko to help us answer questions like how to hook up a one wire alternator and more in our tech Q&A video.
