Free VPNs are like a lottery. Sometimes you pull out the best free VPN, and sometimes you end up with money-hungry apps willing to pawn your data. On that depressing note, let’s jump straight into the best free VPN tier list! Last time I focused on only worthy contenders, but today I included some absolute bottom feeders as well, so keep your eye out for my scores.

💎AtlasVPN - one of the best free VPN options

I know this VPN has a paid version, but it has a free one too, and it’s the target of my interest today. Atlas VPN is what I’d call a go-to VPN for any mobile device. It was designed for them originally, and all of its features are available there. Sure, the visual design of the app is simplistic, but when a VPN is concerned, it’s more important to have a stable connection and fast speeds. Guess what, Atlas VPN delivers both!
Naturally, I’m not a huge fan of having a choice of only 4 locations, counting the recently added Singapore, and the data cap is a bit restrictive. But, Atlas VPN provides a high level of security through encryption, has a reliable no-logs policy, and it’s a part of NordSec. Considering all the security research this company did, I have trust in Atlas VPN’s reliability and potential for improvement. It’s a solid 8.5 out of 10 for me and the A-tier, but…I still miss some of the premium features. After all, unlimited connections, extra layers of security, and even ad-blocking are surely nice.

🔥Windscribe - a free VPN with most country locations!

This is still a VPN that’s capable of accessing a lot of countries for free. While most are restricted to around 3, Windscribe has 11 countries to choose from. With the WireGuard tunneling protocol, this means you are getting decently fast access to quite a bit of servers. Since Windscribe is also freemium, this means that you can expand this number at any time too, and this applies to the number of devices as well, since Windscribe only allows one device on a free plan.
But even completely free, Windscribe provides top-tier encryption and a Kill Switch, and the VPN operates from the jurisdiction of Canada. While this is still a 5-eyes country, Canada’s privacy laws are a bit better than the US, for example, plus the VPN itself gathers no identifying logs. One major downside of the free version is a data cap, but it’s very generous for a free VPN - 10 GB per month plus extra if you manage to get any friends on board.
For me, it’s a solid 8 out of 10, one of the best VPN for free that you can get, and a very top side of the B-tier, almost A. If at any moment WindFlix servers for streaming come back to a free version, that would be a solid A!
