Out of the box, thought this seems a bit floppy, not going to last long here.. hose was very crimped at the handle.
Solution - pull it apart and shorten the hose (bearing in mind there’s an electrical cable in there and possible future leaks of the chemical).
Not is ideal on a new bit of gear.
Am I disappointed ?
Have a guess.
This is of course a manufacturing / packaging problem.
FR Jones & Son, the supplier, decieded to ignore my complaint – no assistance whatsoever to date.
‘’ Is this first contact with us? Did the item arrive damaged?
We look forward to hearing from you.’’
And that was that from FR Jones & Son who ignored both follow up emails.
Beware buying anything off that lot.
Replies from Makita UK:
‘’We will need the hose back with us for our workshop supervisor to have a look into and possibly replace for you, alternatively you can take it back to the point of purchase and request an exchange for the point of purchase to provide you with a new hose’’
(Note: ‘’… possibly replace…’’)
My reply:
‘’I’d do that, but the hose seems ‘integral’ with the unit, were I to remove it, it would be just as easy for me to shorten it at the trigger.
It was badly crimped by, I’d suggest the method of packaging.’’
Makita UK:
‘’ I would advise going back to the point of purchase for an exchange, as if you shorten the hose by cutting it this would void the warranty on the machine.’’
My reply:
‘’In other words:
1/ re-pack it
2/ wait for carrier to collect
3/ wait for FR Jones to send it to Makita
4/ wait for Makita to look at it
6/ wait for Makita to send it to FR Jones
6/ wait in for carrier to deliver
(All in all about 6 weeks going by the faulty drill taken back for ‘exchange’)
What we’re looking for is something like:
‘’We’ll send you a new pump unit/section right away, please return the old one when you can’’
Perhaps even:
‘’thank you for pointing out this design and packaging problem, we were unaware of this’’.
And go on:
‘’please accept *item(s)* for your inconvenience and past/continued support of our 18v cordless tools’’
No, I’ll shorten the hose/wires over the weekend.
And, going back to your first reply: ‘’… look into and possibly replace..’’
– ‘POSSIBLY’ ?‘’
Makita UK:
‘’ Thank you for your email,
We work on a 3-5 day turn around, we wouldn’t have the hose for that look and we can directly collect it from yourself instead of FR Jones, if you would like I can forward this email on to our Returns team for them to arrange a collection with you.
For us to be able to send out any replacements we do need the hose back as this is our policy we need to follow.’’
Reply:
‘’ Thank you for your last email.
I did say I’d repair it myself, which I have now done.
It now functions as intended.
Find photo att of irredeemably bent/crimped hose before removal.’’
