Simon Jarrett CEng has spent some 24 years working on UK railways, the last 17 years being for Chiltern Railways where he is Engineering Assurance & Development Manager and responsible for compliance of the fleet and engineering operation together with the introduction of new technology. Simon has previously worked in roles including technical management and depot management. Prior to joining Chiltern Railways, he was with Angel Trains and London Underground.

Gareth Tucker FIMechE has 19 years experience in the Rail Industry. He is a Professor of Railway Systems Engineering at the Institute of Railway Research (IRR) in the University of Huddersfield. In Gareth’s career so far, he has worked at RSSB, Network Rail, Interfleet Technology and London Underground and is currently leading the development of the Smart Rolling Stock Maintenance Research facility at the IRR. Gareth is also Chair of the IMechE Railway Division North Western Centre.
Andrew Starr CEng FIMechE is Head of the Centre for Life-cycle Engineering and Management (CLEM) at Cranfield University, a world-leading centre of excellence in maintenance and asset management for high value systems. He read Mechanical Engineering and then studied for his doctoral thesis in condition-based maintenance for robotic production plant. His research work has been funded by EPSRC, the EU and a wide range of industrial partners. He is a member of the Permanent Way Institute.
