Hannibal Statement on Referee Accident
The attack on the referee after the match earlier this month was a scripted angle. The company was aware of it for at least a week ahead of time. They provided the prop and had put the match on just before intermission as they planned to change the canvas after the match due to the blood.
The referee was hired only to take part in that attack, he was not scheduled to referee any matches that night to my knowledge. The referee sold himself on the job based on the fact that he had bleed before in matches and knew how to bleed well. The referee initially said his medical expenses were only around $200. I understand there were further expenses. I am not sure what type of insurance coverage he has and I have not seen any hospital or medical bills indicating money he still owes related to medical expenses. I have paid him a total of $700 so far related to medical expenses. I feel horrible that he got hurt and I am regretful about what happened even though it was not intentional.
