My Kazakhstan was a Kazakh patriotic song written in 1956 during the height of Nikita Khrushchev’s “Virgin Lands” program. The purpose of this program was to vastly agriculturalize the rural Soviet land, including Kazakhstan. It is unknown whether this song was made in opposition or support of this program. Its tune with different lyrics is now used as the current anthem of Kazakhstan.
