In this video we will add the add three fractions with unlike denominators. For the purpose of this video we'll use the example 1/2 +1/3 + 1/4.
There are two ways to add three or more fractions together. First, you could add the first two fractions (1/2 + 1/3) to get 5/6. You could then add 5/6 to 1/4 and get your final answer (13/12).

We could also find a common denominator for 1/2 +1/3 + 1/4. Once we have a common denominator, we can easily find the sum by of the fractions by adding the numerators while keeping the denominator the same.
Note that the lowest common multiple (LCM) is also called the lowest common denominator (LCD). You can find the LCM for and by listing all the multiples for 4 and 5. The least common denominator for 1/2 +1/3 + 1/4 is 12.
