Bryant Gumbel announced he was leaving "The Today Show" as Lead Anchor/Co-Anchor on December 24, 1996. Bryant's last day opn the show was January 3, 1997. Matt Lauer was chosen as Bryuant's successor and his start date was Monday, January 6, 1997. Katie Couric remained as Co-Anchor, with Ann Curry News Reader and Al Roker Weatherman/Meteorologist.
