Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona auction happened on October 17th and will go down in the history books as the day the world's most notable watch became the world's most expensive watch. Paul Newman, the famous American actor that became a race car driver later in life, was gifted a Rolex Daytona ref 6239 by his wife Joanne Woodward. On the back of the famous watch was the inscription, "Drive Carefully Me."
Paul Newman eventually gave the watch to James Cox, who was dating his daughter Nell Newman at the time. James held on to the watch until recently deciding to auction it off at the Phillips Art Auction house in New York, having all proceeds go to the Nell Newman Foundation where he sits appointed as treasurer.
Watch history unfold in the making from the lens of Paul Altieri, the CEO of Bob's Watches, who was fortunate enough to have been invited to this extremely exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime event.
