1. Today I'll show you how to make darts on a garment without using tracing paper or thread tacking. Instead we will use these two tools; an awl or a larger sewing needle and a pair of scissors. So let's get going!
2. What you'll do is to make tiny holes and notches and use them as a guide for your darts
3. Place the pattern piece on the fabric and pin
4. Make a hole just above the tip of the dart
5. The make two holes midway just inside the dart sewing lines
6. Finish of by clipping notches where the dart lines begins
7. Fold the fabric, making sure the noches and holes line up
8. Now it's time to sew the dart. Using the markings as a guide you sew just outside the holes. No need to back stitch, instead we will rely on smaller stitches and knots to secure the dart.
9. Start sewing with a regular width. When you have around 1-2 cm left make the stitches smaller. Sew carefully and make sure the needle catches the edges of the fabric to make for a smooth finish
10. Don't back stitch, just make sure you have plenty of thread for the knots
11. Tie three knots to secure the dart
12. Press the dart
13. Here is the finished dart, as you can see there are no trace of the holes, as the are inside of the seam. On Many fabrics the holes will close once the garment is washed, and even if they don't there is no risk that they will cause any damage to the garment. So this a really quick way to make darts but of course it might require s few attempts before you nail it metod is a I've also done this method in delicate fabrics with no issues what so ever.
