방학•휴가 끝난 8월말 코로나 절정 가능성… 질병청 대책반 확대
Amid a recent resurgence in COVID-19, the health authorities plan to strengthen responses to curb the spread.
According to an official from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Tuesday, COVID-19 cases are expected to peak in late August as people return from vacations, increasing their contacts.
The official added that inadequate ventilation due to air conditioning is a major factor behind the summer surge.
In response, the agency has decided to expand its virus response team and buy more treatments this month to better control the outbreak.
The government also plans to resume its vaccination campaign in October, with high-risk groups receiving vaccines for free.
