A new study from the Mayo Clinic looked at patients with post-covid syndrome, also known as COVID-19 long haulers. Out of the first 108 COVID-19 patients in their care, 75% of the long haulers were women.
Researchers think it could have something to do with how different bodies fight the virus. Previous studies show women often have a stronger immune response compared to men.
Doctors say women often power through the initial COVID-19 infection, making them less likely to be hospitalized. But over time that strong immune response can cause trouble.
Doctors think that some women's immune systems remain heightened for months, which essentially leads to the body attacking itself. #WakeUpCLT #COVID19
