Curbside pickup became the go-to option during the pandemic, but that could soon change. Major retailers say pickup orders have dipped to 25% in 2022. Additionally, economists say it doesn't make a lot of business sense for retailers.
During the pandemic, it was the one way for major retailers, like Walmart, Target and Kohl's, to make money. But most stores rely on foot traffic and customers making impulse purchases to boost their bottom line. Curbside pickup prevented this by forcing customers to make their selections without entering the store and seeing everything that was on sale.
Experts also say curbside pickup cost stores big bucks in returns. Plus, retail insiders say an in-person shopping experience is more likely to convince someone to make a big-ticket purchase, like a TV, furniture or other large appliance. #WakeUpCLT
