Vuescan has changed its interface quite a bit since I made this tutorial. My new one, made in August, 2023 uses the current versions of Vuescan and Photoshop.
Fine art photographer Christopher Crawford demonstrates his film scanning technique from start to finish. Using a Nikon LS-8000ED scanner with Vuescan software, he begins by cleaning the glass surfaces on his scanners negative carrier. He then shows the scan process itself, and demonstrates the post-processing needed to make the scan, which will look flat and gray, come to life as a beautiful black and white image with a full tonal range.
