On Friday, a pair of large earthquakes struck near Anchorage, Alaska, swaying buildings, buckling roads and sending terrified residents fleeing from buildings.
The quake, which measured a magnitude-7.0, was centered about 7 miles north of Alaska's most populous city, home to roughly 300,000 people. A strong aftershock, measuring magnitude-5.7 shook the earth soon after and a tsunami warning was briefly issued for some areas.
