At least one protester has been killed in violent clashes between Bangladeshi garment workers and the police. The government had offered to increase wages by 56%, but workers rejected the deal and demanded a near-tripling of their pay to around $200. Bangladesh is home to nearly 3,500 garment factories, supplying some of the world's biggest fast fashion retailers. Rights groups have drawn attention to the poor working conditions where some four million workers toil. Most of them are women and wages start at less than $80 a month.
