In a bizarre moment, Donald Trump backed Jesus Christ as the next Speaker of the House.
“I said there’s only one person that can do it all the way, you know who that is?” Mr Trump asked reporters. “Jesus Christ.”
“Jesus came down and said ‘I want to be Speaker,’ he would do it. Other than that, I haven’t seen anyone who can guarantee it.”
Nine House Republicans have entered the race for speaker after Rep Jim Jordan was ruled out as the nomination after losing an internal ballot on Friday.
The election process with the new contenders starts Tuesday.
