Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai (רבי חיים יוסף דוד אזולאי), commonly known by the acronym Hida (חיד"א), was a prominent Sephardic rabbi, kabbalist, and scholar born in 1724 and passed away in 1806. He is renowned for his extensive writings on Jewish law, ethics, and history. Among his most significant works are "Birkei Yosef," a commentary on the Shulchan Aruch, and "Shem HaGedolim," a bibliographic and biographical compilation of Jewish authors and their works. Rabbi Azulai's contributions have had a lasting impact on Jewish scholarship and are still widely studied today.
