There were 37 poll-tax payers recorded in West Overton in 1377 and the population in 1801 was 172 residents.

Many 18th-century roads and lanes were still visible as tracks in 1977.

Overton Manor House: A stunning 16th and 17th-century manor house near the church, featuring a tile-hung upper floor and a red brick former barn.

Much of the village was rebuilt in the 1870s with gabled cottages designed by the renowned architect Mr. Ponting, who lived in nearby Lockeridge.
