During Game 5 of the 1994 NBA Finals, The NBA on NBC, broadcasting live from Madison Square Garden in New York City, was periodically interrupting the broadcast to cover parts of what's known as "The O.J. Simpson Ford Bronco Chase" as it happened in Los Angeles, California.
Near the end of the first half, Tom Brokaw covered just under two minutes of the event in Los Angeles, and while NBC went away, Hakeem Olajuwon elbowed Anthony Mason in the face during a post move. Mase took offense to the contact, and the two teams needed to be separated.
When NBC returned to MSG, the Knicks fans were chanting "Houston sucks," and commentators Marv Albert and Matt Guokas described the events of the previous few minutes in replay.
