Interfaith tensions have gripped the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. A violent mob attacked shops owned by minorities in Uttarkashi's Purola. In a video going viral, an irate mob can be seen targeting shops and chanting "Jai Shri Ram." Posters threatening minorities to shut shops and leave the state by June 15 have also surfaced. Uttarkashi's Purola has been caught in the "communal web" since May 26. This comes after an alleged attempt to abduct a minor Hindu girl by two men. Abduction was foiled, but tensions triggered as one of the accused is from a minority community. The incident was coined "Love Jihad,' and Hindu groups even held massive protests. Both accused men have been arrested; however, arrests in the area continue.
