As a new parent it breaks our heart to see our little one going through the pain of shot and discomfort that comes with it.
I had opted for painful vaccination for my elder daughter and seen how she suffered. With swollen thighs unable to move and temperature raising it was a nightmare for the next two days. So we decided to go with a painless option after discussing with our paediatrician. Well the baby still goes through pain during the shot but the post effects were mild. In our case we didn't see any swollen thighs or fever and she was active the next day.
I have compiled the difference between painful and painless vaccination so you could refer and take the right decision after discussing with your paed.
Painful:
1. Vaccines contain whole cells of pertussis bacteria which are highly immunogenic.
2. Leads into severe pain, fever, swelling or redness at the site of injection.
3. Available in both private and government hospitals.
4. Less expensive.
Painless:
1.consists of the acellular part which is less immunogenic and hence side effects are very mild.
2. Available only in private hospitals.
3. Bit expensive
Key Points :
* Whatever option you choose, the baby still goes through prick pain during the shot.
* Both painful and painless vaccinations are equally effective.
* Painless option is applicable only to combo vaccines having pertussis subunit. Mostly DPT vaccines are given to babies during 6th, 10th and 14th week.
* It's advisable to talk to your paediatrician and ask his opinion to make the right decision.
