The China Road and Bridge Corporation has defended its contribution to the local economy, in the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway.
Corporation Chairman Lu Shan has credited SGR for a 1.5 per cent increase in the Gross Domestic Product and decreasing logistical costs by 40 per cent.
In its 2017/18 Social Responsibility report, it says it has created 26,000 jobs through direct hires and indirectly created more by increasing its sourcing of construction material locally.
Lu Shan says they intend to grow that number further by providing specialised training to Kenyans, in operations and maintenance.
