The High Court on Monday (21 June) dismissed former domestic worker Parti Liyani’s application to seek compensation from Deputy Public Prosecutors (DPPs) involved in her case under Section 359(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The application is the first of its kind to have been made in Singapore under this section after it was introduced in 2010.
Speaking to TOC reporter, Ms Parti’s lawyer Anil Balchandani expressed his disappointment on the outcome of the application, though he admitted that he "wasn't very surprised" as it was a "difficult application".
When asked about the positive outcome from this application, Mr Anil said that there is "some clarity on what Section 359(3) means", in terms of "what is required, and how bad the decision of the prosecution must be to seek immediate compensation".
