This video shows how I convert my regular hoops to baseless hoops
A DIY option for converting old-style hoops into “baseless” hoops - with my foster dog Marli the Malinois helping out
Baseless hoops are safer, as the dogs can’t step on the centre bar and injure their toes. Some dogs actually “jump” the centre bar, so removing it will prevent this. Also, a baseless hoop doesn’t impede the dog’s gait - dogs participating in Hoopers should ideally have a free-flowing action.
A hoop with a base can be perfectly fine when just getting started, but switching to baseless hoops is preferred, especially once the dogs are running longer sequences.
