Lee Mason, PhD, board certified behavior analyst and an assistant professor of special education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, presents "Fictional Explanations of Autistic Behavior." During this 5-part series, Dr. Mason discusses autism as a contingency-shaped disorder of verbal behavior. Contingencies of reinforcement in effect during the primary years of a child's life may operate to establish and maintain those behaviors that later result in a diagnosis of autism. The presentation defines autism as verbal behavior, identifies explanatory fictions and identifies characteristics of behavior analytic interventions.
