New York is one of the most politically polarized and economically divided states in the country, seemingly contested between those from NYC and those belonging to the more rural North. After years of lacking cooperation, and general domination by Downstate politicians, is it time for Upstate New York to consider becoming its own state? Is creating a new state out of an old state even a reasonable option? Or might there be an alternative that allows Upstate and Downstate New York to continue existing within the same state, but under different governments?

Long term, some compromise must be reached, or both sides, rural and urban, North and South, Republican and Democrat, will find themselves in a worse situation the longer this divide continues. Should New York be partitioned? Or is there another option?
