I cycled along the Bow River Saturday night and took these timelapse images of Calgary's "River of Light" event. The forest fire smoke cleared and the forecasted rain held off, providing a wonderful opportunity for the celebration. Glowing spheres were dropped in clusters from Edworthy Park pedestrian bridge, to the rhythmic beat of drummers. As the glowing orbs floated through Parkdale, kayaks shepherded them along to keep them from getting caught in eddies or being blown ashore by gentle breeze. The full moon hovered overhead like a mother watching over her children. On their way downtown a singer spontaneously serenaded them as they passed under the Crowchild Trail bridge. Very peaceful.
